A resident bird of Cyprus and the Akamas peninsula. It’s a common dove species, widespread and very familiar to people of Cyprus, usually in cities, villages and agricultural areas.
It’s seen in pairs, small groups and bigger flocks (especially in winter). It nests mainly on trees, but frequently on human made spots (e.g. on air condition compressors, pots on balconies etc.).
It feeds on plant origin food. It’s a medium sized dove, with uniformly light grey back, a slightly lighter toned underside, with black wing tips and a characteristic black line with a white ‘window’ on the neck.
