ABOUT Gyps fulvus

A resident bird of Cyprus, seen rather sporadically in the Akamas peninsula. It’s a very rare species nowadays, with a very small population in Cyprus, facing a great risk of extinction.

In the recent past (even up to fifty years ago) it used to be a very common species of Cyprus countryside, very familiar to the people of the island and frequently seen, while it used to breed in many areas, including the Akamas peninsula.

Nowadays it doesn’t breed in the Akamas, while the sightings of the species are rather rare and random, by wandering individuals.
