ABOUT Turdus philomelos

A winter visitor mainly and passing migrant for Cyprus and the Akamas peninsula. It’s very common and widespread during winter, in a variety of habitats, mainly in forested sites, areas with dense vegetation, orchards etc.

It remains well hidden in dense cover and avoids human, while it frequently moves on the ground, searching for food (mainly earth worms). It feeds also on fruit, snails and insects.

It’s a rather small thrush species, with brownish upperparts and white-yellowish or white underparts covered with scattered black spots. It belongs in the gamebirds of Cyprus.
